Meet our year-long intern Erin! She recently joined the camp crew in mid October. Erin’s camp story begins 5 summers ago when she came to camp with one of her very good friends and volunteered as a counselor. She immediately fell in love with the ministry and wanted to be more involved. She was a part of the 2017 and 2018 summer internship programs and now has decided to take a big step and join the camp family as a year-long intern. As an intern she lives with and cares for the residents who live in the Hartley House. She helps out with cleaning, shopping, driving, cooking and encouraging socialization and family time. She will also be assisting with Camp’s marketing efforts, running social media, graphic design and more! As an intern she is also involved with Special Olympics, The Hub Student Ministry and The Able Church. While doing all of these jobs she is learning about non-profit work, disability, leadership and what it mean to be a missionary to a subculture.
The missionary aspect of being a year-long intern is a large part of an intern’s experience and growth during their year. All the staff at Camp Daniel are full time missionaries to people with disabilities, and like most missionaries, Erin will need to raise $700 in monthly financial support to pay rent, food, transportation, and other living expenses. She asks for your financial support, whether it be $10, $20, $50, or $100 a month.
