Dear friends and family,
Hello! It is finally that time of year again.. camp season! For the past 10 years I have been volunteering at a summer camp called Camp Daniel, a magical place for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages. My experiences at camp have influenced my life in numerous ways and fueled my passion to pursue a career in Special Education!
Last summer I had the amazing opportunity to be a Summer
Intern at Camp Daniel and I spent my summer serving alongside 8 other interns. My job as an intern was to support the counselors, lead different areas throughout the camp, and help make things run smoothly as the weeks went on. While at camp, I feel closest to God and see Him shine through every one of the campers. It is an incredible experience that is hard describe with words, it’s something you just have to experience for yourself!
One of the main reasons I love Camp Daniel is because as a counselor going there, you think that you are going there to help the people with disabilities. In reality, the campers are the ones who change our lives. One way I know this to be true is because of my little brother, Nate. He is 10 years old and has Down Syndrome and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). For the past 10 years, he has shown me the true definition of unconditional love and not to judge anyone because of what you many see on the outside. He sees past what most people don’t, and loves them anyways. What I didn’t realize 10 years ago was that I would have a brother that would teach me some of the most valuable lessons in life.
Like last summer, I will be returning to Camp Daniel for my second summer internship! This year I plan to dive deeper into what God has in store for me and further discover my leadership skills. It will also be exciting to once again work with a great group of interns and serve God along with everyone at camp! At camp, I can truly be the best version of myself and show God’s love to everyone there.
Being involved in Camp Daniel’s Summer Internship Program is a missions trip and to make it all possible I will need your support both prayerfully and financially. I ask that you keep me in your prayers as I embrace what God will be doing in my life. The total cost of the program is $800, which includes food, housing, training, and transportation. I will need to raise this full amount by June 20th. A financial donation of any size will go a long way and is greatly appreciated. I thank you for all your support to help me get this far; I couldn’t do it without you! Would you consider helping? If you are able to, there are a few ways to give:
If you are writing a check, please make it out to Camp Daniel with my name, Maddie Kocian, written in the memo. You can also make a donation online on this page. Since Camp Daniel is a non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. Once a donation is made, you will receive a receipt in the mail. Enclosed in this envelope is a tax-exempt form to help make the donation process as simple as can be. Thank you for all of your love and support! I really appreciate it and I can’t wait to be a part of this years Camp Daniel Summer Internship Program.
